Protective films on shiny substrates

Protective films on shiny substrates

On firm foundations:

Levamelt® and its blends are extraordinarily versatile in their adhesion to a variety of substrates. Here, the user can make full use of the benefits of the modular concept.

At a glance
  • Adjustable adhesion on a very wide range of substrates
  • Levamelt® grades with 45 percent vinyl acetate content: Good adhesion on low-energy surfaces
  • Polarity of a Levamelt® blend can be adjusted by mixing it with polyethylene
  • Additional tackifiers can be easily incorporated
  • Can be removed evenly

For example, the adhesion of Levamelt® formulations to polymers with average polarities such as polycarbonate, ABS and acrylates can be very strong depending on the VA content of the basic EVM grade. However, it can easily be adapted to the requirements of the substrate by blending the adhesive raw material (e.g. Levamelt® 450) with, for example, linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) as a low-polarity component in a twin-screw extruder (dry blend).

Polar adhesive raw materials do not naturally exhibit good adhesion to low-energy surfaces such as polyolefins. However, Levamelt® grades such as Levamelt® 452 with a higher melt flow index are ideal for such circumstances, possibly in combination with an additional tackifier.

Levamelt® grades with a higher polarity such as Levamelt® 700 or 800 achieve the best results on materials with a high surface tension such as glass, steel or marble. Peel tests have also shown that Levamelt® adhesives can be more evenly removed from the substrate than polyacrylates and thus cause less damage to the substrate.
